Janu's Josh

Little Janu wishes to be a teacher in future. She is so curious to recount her daily school activities to her parents and grandmother. By now, she has mastered the art of communicating and conversing in an effective way. She is the topper of class V and her family is so proud of her. The unexpected lockdown has literally locked her inside the room. She is not at all enthusiastic. She can’t bear with the quarantine just because she can’t enjoy the exuberances of her school days anymore. She started complaining this to her bedridden grandmother. One day, Janu sat beside her and started screaming all on a sudden. Grandmother could not make any sense out of that and she asked “Why are you crying, Janu darling? Are you not going to school these days?”

Janu replied, “Oh, Grandma! I can’t go to school. It is closed because of the lockdown”

What is lockdown, Janu?, asked Grandma.

Don’t you know there is a new disease named ‘COVID 19’. That will take our lives. So, everything is shut down. No school, no buses, no hotels, no movement these days, Grandma. Everything is locked. We all are on quarantine.

Eeh, quarantine? What is it, my dear?

Grandma, we are supposed to be in isolation at our own places so as to prevent the spread of this virus. We have to socially distance us from others. Staying away from others is the best way of helping each other.

Is it so, Janu?

Yes, Grandma. But, I want to go to school, chill with my friends. I am getting bored here.

Janu started screaming like anything.

Grandma gave her a boisterous laughter. She patted on her shoulder and said, “Janu, everything will be fine soon. You can go to school and play with your friends. But once you reach my age, you will be in lockdown forever. You will be isolated and socially distanced too. What will you do then?”

Don’t worry, Janu. This will be a part of your life once you grow old. Just think of me. I am in a state of lockdown. But, after a few days, you will get rid of this and your life will be normal. My lockdown can be ended only if somebody invites me to a new land you have not seen. So, Janu, please, share a few moments with me these days till our lockdowns get over. Won’t you?

Yes, Grandma for sure.

Little Janu is back with her josh. She started giggling with her Grandma.

U and UV

The year 2020 has made us witness the ultimate catastrophe in the form of a pitiable pandemic. The importance of conserving and reinstating our environment has become a matter of grave concern. Yet another September 16 has approached in the midst of the pandemonium created by COVID – 19 pandemic. Normally known as the ‘World Ozone Day’, September 16 commemorates the Montreal Protocol that was adopted on this date by 24 member countries of UN three decades ago, to limit and eventually phase out the making of artificial chemicals like chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and other ozone depleting materials.

The Wheel of Life

Upended ordinary activity

Reeling in the rhythm of passivity

Ambitions and burning desires sans grin

Couched in the quarantine tangles breathing in.

The tickling of the monsoon raises,

The animus of man rouses.

Turning and turning in life’s daily wheel

Let the skirmishes of the verities heal!

CorOnam

Far away from the madding crowd,

There comes a harbinger not at all loud.

Aren’t they getting ready for Mahabali’s visit?

Why does the Malayali land gloomily sit?

The month of Chingam devoid of a carnival,

The land of Kerala so silent of the festival.

Is it not the right time?

Is it not the gaiety’s chime?

Nothing happens, nobody comes and nobody goes!

The chimera of the festivity is filled in woes.

It is not the time and land of Malayali’s Onam?

Oh, it is only the tenor and leverage of Wuhan’s CorOnam.

Reminiscing My Sindhu Ma'am

“The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called truth”. The renowned American journalist, Dan Rather’s dictum exemplifies the saga of my teacher who walked into my life quite accidentally and incidentally a decade ago. This very compelling presence of my entity has bid an eternal adieu by reaching the ‘undiscovered country from whose bourn no traveller returns’. She left me with the imprint of impermeable darkness on 2 March 2020, her birthday. I do not know where and how to begin my personal and academic affiliation with my teacher, Dr Sindhu Menon.

If you are interested to know more about my favorite teacher, please have a look at the link of my article published in ToI Reader's blog.

YugapurushA

The aura of the magnetic personality of Sree Narayana Guru inspired many prodigies of India. This is obvious from the profound expression of admiration of the Guru couched in chiseled simplicity of diction by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore after meeting this great, yet frail, figure who was a beautiful blend of Sankara, Ramakrishna and the Mahatma. He says,

I have been touring different parts of the world. During these travels, I have had the good fortune to come into contact with several saints and maharshis. But I have frankly to admit that I have never come across one who is spiritually greater than Swami Sree Narayana Guru of Malayalam – nay, a person who is on a par with him in spiritual attainment. I am sure; I shall never forget that radiant face illumined by the self- effulgent light of divine glory and those yogic eyes fixing their gaze on a far remote point in the distant horizon.

Travails of a Travel

 Such a sudden air crash

With a single second’s flash!

Why did they travel?

Just to be a part of this travail?

They have created a terrible pain

With the tragic landing of a plane.

Was it a furious flight

To change their plight?

What has happened on the runway?

That has taken sundry lives away?

The downpour and lockdown are in inclement

People do not see any sort of increment.

Mission Vande Bharat landed

Miserable minds stranded

They have nothing to be upset

As they won’t witness any more sunset.

P.S. This is my recently published poem from Poets India.
